Remote Education Provision

Information for Parents and Carers

The Oldershaw School is committed to providing pupils with activities and resources that will continue to support their learning during any period of enforced absence. It is important that your child is able to continue with their studies to ensure learning and progress continues.

We expect your child to be ready to learn at 8.30am each morning. Your child’s form tutor will be ready to register your child online through a live meeting on Microsoft Teams, so it is important that they are punctual in joining the meeting.

We teach the same curriculum as we do in school wherever possible, so your child is expected to follow their normal timetable when learning from home.

If your child does not attend their online morning registration or a lesson for one of their subjects, the form tutor or teacher will contact your child by sending a ‘Chat’ message through Microsoft Teams. If absence continues, you can expect to receive a phone call – any persistent absence will result in a home visit and referral to our safeguarding officer.

Your child can expect to access work through Microsoft Teams and experience a range of teaching methods, including live online lessons and recorded teaching. There will be opportunities for independent study, and feedback will be provided using features within Microsoft Teams, such as live meetings and ‘Chat’.

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home and constantly look to provide suitable alternatives. If you require assistance, contact your child’s assistant progress leader.

We understand that working from home presents challenges for many families. We strongly recommend that you establish daily routines to support your child’s education, such as:

  • Provide a quiet, comfortable learning space for your child, if possible
  • Encourage your child to be organised and keep mobile devices charged for learning
  • Make sure your child has the necessary equipment/materials to complete work
  • Provide healthy snacks and water to keep the mind active and alert
  • Regularly check-in on your child to make sure they are engaged and avoiding distractions

We are here to support you and your child.
Please do not hesitate in contacting us if you need help.
